How to move from your old host to LumisCloud Print

What Gets Transferred

A cPanel-to-cPanel transfer will migrate the following:

  • All website files and directories
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
  • Email accounts, forwarders, and filters
  • Cron jobs (scheduled tasks)
  • DNS zone records
  • SSL certificates (if installed via cPanel)
  • Subdomains and addon domains

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Your old host’s cPanel login URL, username, and password
  • Your old server’s IP address or hostname
  • Your LumisCloud account credentials (provided in your welcome email)
  • Access to your domain registrar to update nameservers when ready

Option 1: Provide Your Login Details (Recommended)

The fastest and easiest way to migrate is to provide our team with your old host’s cPanel credentials and server details. Simply open a support ticket or email us with this information, and we’ll handle the entire transfer from start to finish. We’ll notify you once the migration is complete and your site is ready for review.

Option 2: Generate a Backup and Send It to Us

If you’d rather not share your old host’s login credentials, you can generate a full cPanel backup and provide it to our team for restoration. Here’s how:

Step 1: Generate a Full Backup on Your Old Host

  1. Log in to cPanel on your current (old) hosting provider.
  2. Navigate to Files → Backup or Backup Wizard.
  3. Click “Download a Full Account Backup.”
  4. Select “Home Directory” as the backup destination and click “Generate Backup.”
  5. Wait for the backup to complete. You’ll receive an email notification, or you can refresh the page to check the status.
  6. Once the backup is ready, download the file to your computer. It will be a .tar.gz file.

Step 2: Send the Backup to LumisCloud

Open a support ticket with LumisCloud and let us know you have a full cPanel backup ready to transfer. Our team will provide you with a secure upload link or SFTP credentials so you can send us the backup file. Once we receive it, we’ll restore everything to your new LumisCloud account on your behalf.

Step 3: Verify Your Website

After our team completes the restoration, we’ll notify you that your site is ready for review. Before updating your nameservers, preview your site on LumisCloud to make sure everything transferred correctly. You can do this by modifying your local hosts file to point your domain to the LumisCloud server IP, or by using your server’s temporary URL (provided in your welcome email). Check your website pages, database-driven features, email accounts, and any SSL certificates.

Step 4: Update Your Nameservers

Once you’ve confirmed everything looks good, log in to your domain registrar and update your nameservers to the LumisCloud nameservers provided in your welcome email. DNS propagation typically takes anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, though most updates are visible within 2–4 hours.

Tips for a Smooth Migration

  • Don’t cancel your old hosting account until your site is fully live on LumisCloud and DNS has propagated.
  • Lower your domain’s TTL (Time to Live) value a day or two before migrating to speed up DNS propagation.
  • If your site uses a content management system like WordPress, clear any caching plugins after the transfer.
  • Check that file permissions transferred correctly, especially for scripts and writable directories.
  • Re-test contact forms, login pages, and any database-dependent functionality after the migration.
